Life Coaching 101: Recapturing Your Sense of Purpose and Direction in Life

Sometimes people get stuck in behavioral patterns that they are not sure how to get out of, and when this happens, it can be very helpful to seek the advice of an objective third party. In certain instances, a therapist may be the right person to call upon to break out of such patterns, but in other instances, a life coach may do the trick. If you just feel sort of “stuck” and you do not feel particularly mired down by depression and/or anxiety and/or other psychological issues, then a life coach may be able to help you get a handle on what it is you want to accomplish and how.
An effective life coach can also help you figure out what you have been doing up until this point that has been impeding you from achieving your goals. After all, sometimes learning what NOT to do any longer in order to achieve your goals can be just as helpful (or even more helpful) than learning what to do.
As you already know all too well, life can be full of distractions. Here is a small scale example of just how distracting life can be: You turn on your computer with the intention or goal of writing an article, but soon you get sucked into reading some of your favorite blogs or news sites, and you lose sight of why you turned on your computer in the first place.
If you had your life coach sitting on your shoulder (like one of those “good angels” in cartoons), whispering to you to stay focused on the task at hand, chances are you would not get sucked into all of those distractions and you would be able to stay focused on what it is that you want to do until you complete your task. A life coach can also remind you of just how great it feels to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself.
Much in the same way that a personal trainer can keep you focused like a laser beam on your health, diet and fitness goals, a life coach can help you retain your sense of focus and help keep your “eyes on the prize” whenever you feel your attention drifting off in one direction or the other. Even the most responsible and focused people can find their attention drifting from time to time, and sometimes all that is needed is just the gentlest push back in the right direction. A good life coach can provide this push as often as necessary.
